CBD Hemp Oil is a hemp extract taken from legal beneficial Cannabinoid containing Hemp varieties. Hemp (Cannabis Sativa) contains a cocktail of beneficial Cannabinoids, of which CBD (Cannabidiol) plays the most significant part in medical society. THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol), which is the psychoactive substance in Cannabis, is only included in the legally permitted homeopathic concentration up to a maximum of 0.3%. If you are here to find out more about the proper CBD Oil Dosage for yourself or someone you love, read on.
In case you are seriously considering taking CBD for your health condition, whether you are suffering from a physical, mental, or emotional illness, you should know that there is no such thing as standard dosages when it comes to CBD. This plant extract comes in a variety of forms, from concentrates to tinctures, capsules, vape oil, and others, so that each person can find the easiest way to take his or her daily dose of CBD.
But, what’s the best dose?
You are most probably wondering how much CBD you should take in order to enjoy its benefits. Well, you need to know that each person may require a specific, personalized dose, which is determined by a series of factors.
It is recommended not to take CBD based on the information you find online, as it may not work in your case or trigger certain effects, like mouth dryness or dizziness, drowsiness or alertness, in case you take too much or too little.
How much CBD should you take?
How much CBD you should use depends entirely on you. Literally! We speak of an individually specific dosage. Which means that on the one hand the optimum dosage of CBD is individually different from person to person, and on the other hand it depends on what you plan to use CBD for.
- Individual: age, gender, genetics, metabolism, general health etc.
- Specific: For anxiety, sleeping, depression, epilepsy or pain etc.
From this it can be concluded that you need to find out your individual dosage base and use that to discover your application-specific dose based on it. It sounds more complicated than it is. Do not worry, we’ll help you as much as possible to find your dose. But to do that, some basic things have to be clarified and understood beforehand.
There is no general dosage recommendation of CBD for all
As mentioned before, there is no general dosage recommendation neither from the FDA nor from scientists or CBD oil manufacturers.
- The FDA declares CBD oil from hemp as a dietary supplement, but has not confirmed the mode of action of CBD. Therefore, there is no RDI (Reference Daily Intake), which is proposed by the FDA.
- But even though the FDA would declare an RDI for daily CBD needs, that would not define the application-specific dose, which can also be seen in the official studies on CBD.
- In turn, CBD oil manufacturers must not give medical advice on the use of CBD. If they would give a dose recommendation for a particular disease, they would indirectly make a medical claim on their CBD products, and that is not allowed by law.
- Even if they would be allowed to give a CBD oil dosage recommendation for a particular application, they would not be able to individually respond to each customer. That would only be possible for doctors specializing in cannabinoid treatment.
General dosage recommendation for supplementation
Before moving on to the individual dosage base and application-specific dosages, we would like to give you the recommended dosage for supplementation with CBD. This dosage is neither individually nor application-specific coordinated and is therefore only to be regarded as orientation. This dosage table comes from years of experience of general application of CBD.
The properties of the different applications of CBD also play a role
CBD can be absorbed by the body in different ways. And the body can absorb and utilize the consumed CBD differently depending on these different methods, This is called bioavailability, and it differs depending on how you administer the CBD to your body. How much CBD the body can actually use from the amount administered depends on the bioavailability of the administration method. In general, there are 4 methods of administering CBD, but we do not include topical application for the dosage.
These are the following:
- Sublingual: By administering CBD tinctures or concentrates under the tongue. This method is the most used because it is also a very balanced method. It has good bioavailability. The effect also occurs quickly and the duration of the effect lasts relatively long.
- Oral: By swallowing CBD capsules and edibles. Has the worst bioavailability of all applications. This method takes the longest period of time before the effect kicks in. However, it is also the method where the effect lasts the longest.
- Pulmonary: The uptake of CBD via the lungs via a vaporizer. According to recent studies, CBD absorbed through the lungs has the highest bioavailability of the 3 named application methods. Also, this method has the fastest onset of action. But also the shortest duration of action.
Since different amounts of CBD enter the body as a result of the different methods of application, this must also be taken into account in the dosage.

You have to find your own individual dose
Again, there isn’t a standard dose that works for everybody. And the best way to find the ideal dose in your case is by “experimenting”. Don’t worry, as there are absolutely no risks of reaching a CBD overdose. As the side-effects of taking too much CBD rarely occur and even if they do, they are not severe.
But, when experimenting, it is recommended to start with the lowest dose recommended for your health condition, weight, and age, and gradually adjust your dose until you obtain the best results.
You will have to stay on a particular dose for several days in a row. So that you can clearly see how you feel and what results that particular dose is giving you until you decide to adjust it.
Also, when adjusting your dose, make very small changes, taking one step at a time toward reaching the ideal dose.
Find your individual CBD dose base
In order to find your individual dose, you must first discover your dosage base at which CBD has a noticeable effect. Since it is due to the different bioavailabilities of the different application methods and due to individual conditions, the effectiveness and the necessary and received CBD can vary strongly.
Start slowly and increase gradually your daily dosage
Start with a small dose of 2-5 mg 3 times a day. | Keep this dose for 2-3 days. |
Increase the dose to 4-10 mg per dose 3 times a day. | Keep this dose for 2-3 days. |
Increase the dose to 8-20 mg per dose 3 times a day. | Keep this dose for 2-3 days. |
Increase the dose to 16-40 mg per dose 3 times a day. | Keep this dose for 2-3 days. |
Continue this cycle if you have not felt the effect of CBD in any of these dose areas.
For most people, the effects of CBD will be noticeable within these dose cycles. However, you can and should increase your dose if you do not experience the effects of CBD in one way or another.
Record the progress by writing down your constitution. Pay attention to positive as well as negative things. Things like carelessness, relaxation, and perhaps, improvement in some symptoms such as fatigue, dizziness, etc.
With this method, you can approach your CBD basic dosage. Make a note of the amount at which you consciously perceived the effects of CBD.
From basic dosage to dosage for specific use
Once you have found your basic dosage, you can continue to regulate your dose, depending on the symptom you want to treat with it. Increase or decrease your dose by 5-10 mg per dose. Keep in mind to use the CBD 3 times a day. Dispense it over the day. Sublingual administration has a duration of approximately 4-5 hours. This will allow you to cover one day with 3 dose units. However, stay with a dose for a week before you continue to increase. If you do not feel well at a certain dose, just take less (do not wait for a week without taking it).
As a rough guide, we can give you some more guidance on the dosage of CBD for the following different symptoms.
- Chronic Pain: 20 – 100 MG CBD per dose
- Anxiety: 10 – 40 MG CBD per dose
- Epilepsy: 40 – 300 MG CBD per day
- Schizophrenia: 40 -1300 MG CBD per Day
- Multiple Sclerosis (MS): 40 – 120 MG CBD per days
- Movement Problems Due to Huntington’s Disease: 50 – 100 MG CBD per Day
- Sleep Disorders: 40 – 150 MG CBD per dose
- Glaucoma: 20 – 40 MG CBD per dose (>40 MG may increase eye pressure)

Before you buy a CBD product, you should think about the amount you need
Before you buy a CBD product, make sure it contains enough CBD for your intention. To determine your base dose, we recommend at least 500 mg CBD, so that you have enough room to experiment, as long as you do not know what dose you need. If the CBD product does not contain enough CBD, you may never reach your dosage base.
Above all, pay attention to which products you buy. Because a CBD product of poor quality or a CBD product that does not contain any CBD is counterproductive and in the long run, it may have no effect and can be harmful.

How to determine the amount of CBD from drops & tinctures
The CBD content in CBD drops and tinctures is usually given in mg. This value refers to the total contents of the dropper bottle. For example, a 10 ml bottle of CBD oil with 500 MG CBD.
Some manufacturers also specify the CBD content per drop on the bottle in addition to the CBD total content. But not everyone does this.
We will help you to find out how much CBD is in one drop of your CBD tincture so that you can dose yourself correctly.
A drop from a dropper contains about 0.05 ml of liquid.
- If the bottle contains a total quantity of 10 ml, this is the equivalent of around 200 drops contained in the bottle.
- If this tincture also contains 500 MG CBD in this 10 ML total, then each drop from this bottle will contain 2.5 MG CBD.
- For example, to dose 25 MG CBD, you will need 10 drops of this specific product to reach that dose.
This was just one example of how you can properly calibrate the dose with drops and tinctures. You can easily calculate this yourself now. All you need is the total amount of tincture (ML) and the total content of CBD (MG).
Sample calculation:
- Total fill (ML) / drop of liquid (0.05 ML) = Number of drops
- CBD total content (MG) / Number of drops = MG per Drop
The whole thing again with numbers:
- 10 ML / 0,05 = 200 Drops
- 1000 MG CBD / 200 Drops = 5 MG CBD per Drop
A few more examples of the CBD content per drop of a specific CBD oil:
Total Content | CBD Content | Contains estimated drops | Amount of CBD per drop |
10 ML | 250 MG | 200 | 1,25 |
10 ML | 500 MG | 200 | 2,50 |
25 ML | 750 MG | 500 | 1,50 |
25 ML | 1250 MG | 500 | 2,50 |
25 ML | 2000 MG | 500 | 4,00 |
50 ML | 6000 MG | 1000 | 6,00 |
How to determine the amount of CBD from Concentrates
CBD concentrates are usually filled in syringes and have a viscous consistency. The content is specified in either grams or ml. The CBD content, in turn, is expressed in either % or mg.
The good thing about CBD concentrates in syringes in terms of dosage is that on the syringes, units of measure are given in ML. This makes it possible to dose precisely to approx. 0.1 ML. 1 ML corresponds to 1 gram. How much CBD is in a certain amount (ML or grams), you can find out in the following example:
If the CBD Content of the CBD concentrate is given in %, first the total CBD Content of this product must be converted into MG:
- 5 grams (5 ML) with 20% CBD – 5 grams = 5000 mg
- 20 % of 5000 mg = 1000 mg
In this example, the CBD content is 1000 mg
If you dose 0.1 ml from the syringe, it has the following CBD content, which we find out from a calculation example.
- 5 ML / 0,1 ML = 50
- 1000 mg / 50 = 20 mg
A dose of 0.1 ml of a 20% CBD concentrate with a total of 5 grams (ml) has accordingly a CBD content of 20 mg.
How to determine the amount of CBD from Vape oils
The use of vaporizers to vaporize CBD and absorb it by inhaling into the body is for many a pleasant way to consume CBD. But to determine a dose is a bit more complex. Because not only does the CBD content of a given amount of CBD vape oil have to be detrmined, but also how much CBD you get from 1 inhalation.
To determine the amount of CBD you put in the vaporizer tank, proceed as with the tinctures and drops described above. Find out how much CBD is in a drop of your vape oil. If you know the capacity of your vaporizer tank, you can also calculate the amount of CBD in the tank by filling it up.
- For example: If the tank has a capacity of 2 ML and your Vape Oil 1500 MG CBD at 10 ML, then there will be 300 MG CBD in the tank (after filling).
- 1500 ML / 10 Ml = 150 ML * 2 ML = 300 ML
So you can at least calculate how much CBD is in your vaporizer when you fill it with a certain amount of CBD Vape Oil.
How much CBD is in one puff is another story. You can find out how much CBD you have consumed by watching the tank. If this has reached half, then you know that you (according to the example) have consumed 150 mg of CBD. An alternative approach is to use exactly one tank a day, then you know it exactly. Over time, however, you will get a feel for what you have already evaporated and can use the fill gauge to get a rough idea of the dosage.
A few remarks on dosage in CBD capsules
For dosage with CBD capsules and pills, there is no need for further explanation. The practical thing about CBD capsules is that they come in pre-dosed sizes. 15, 25, 50, 75 and 100 MG per capsule are generally offered. An orally administered capsule therefore contains a dose of the specific product.
Advantages of CBD capsules:
- Easy to dose and tasteless
- The effect of CBD lasts the longest when administering capsules
Disadvantages of CBD capsules:
- You can only increase and decrease the dose in the same increments as the CBD amount of the capsules.
- The bioavailability of CBD capsules is lower than for drops, concentrates or vape oils. Which means you need a little more CBD to get the same amount of CBD in the body. Therefore, many CBD capsules are also offered in relatively high CBD quantities
CBD is non-toxic even in high doses
Studies have shown that CBD is not toxic in high doses. Even at a dose of up to 1500 mg CBD, no toxicity was detected. This means that you have plenty of room to experiment to find your dose. However, be careful and try to follow our guide. Because CBD is not cheap and you certainly do not want to waste any of it.

Do not hesitate to contact a physician
Do not be afraid to see a doctor and talk to him about using CBD. In most cases, however, the doctor will have no idea and cannot give you any recommendations regarding the dosage. Unless you are fortunate enough to live in a country/state where medical cannabis is offered and certain physicians are specialists in the use of cannabis for therapy purposes. Nevertheless, a doctor you trust can assist you well with advice and can properly monitor the development of your health.

Record your development
Do not forget to record your evolution. Write down the amount of CBD you took, when you took it, your body weight, what you ate, how you felt before taking CBD, and how you felt after taking CBD. Also, do not hesitate to record any other observations you may consider relevant. You should have such a log for every single day of your CBD treatment. As it is the best way to see how you are doing.
