Public interest in CBD Oil and CBD products has been growing ever since CBD first caught the attention of the medical industry. Many people would like to know whether CBD can get you high, and the short, direct answer is “No, it can’t”. However, in order to explain to you why it cannot get you high even though it was extracted from Cannabis, I would have to put in more effort than that, so here goes:
Like THC, CBD is a Cannabinoid found in the Cannabis plant. As is the case with any concentrated essential oil, the nature of CBD oil remains the same after it has been extracted from the Cannabis plant. Seeing that CBD Oil is extracted from high CBD/low THC plants, and THC is the culprit that causes users to get high, CBD oil CANNOT have a psychoactive effect on you, since CBD is not psychoactive at all.
In fact, it has been proven that CBD counteracts the effect of THC on a user. It is therefore impossible to get high when using CBD oil. So if you actually WANT to get high, then go for THC oil, not CBD oil. The only immediately tangible effect of CBD oil on your body would be a relaxed and tranquil feeling.
Note that both Hemp and Cannabis contain many non-psychoactive cannabinoids. As stated above, CBD will counteract the psychoactive effect of THC when the two substances are consumed together.
No CBD Oil high – CBD Non-Psychoactive
Hemp differs from Cannabis in the sense that Hemp is specifically cultivated for non-recreational purposes and to contain an ultra-low concentration of THC. For this reason, CBD oil is mostly made from Hemp. Hemp, although related to Cannabis, has been bred selectively as an agricultural crop. Hemp is legal in the EU & the USA. CBD oils made from Hemp only contain only traces of THC, usually less than 0.9 %, which is completely harmless.
CBD is a medicine and not a drug
CBD has been proven to have all the positive effects that THC provide, including combating anxiety, inflammation, psychosis, nausea, and a whole host of other problems. But although initial research is promising a lot more knowledge is need and research needs to be done to conclusively prove that this is due to CBD alone. Therefore, CBD is often used as an adjuvant because it is not a drug.
CBD and THC
Cannabinoid researcher Dr. Ethan Russo describes as follows: “It used to be widely spread in the Cannabis terraces of Afghanistan and Morocco, but has largely disappeared from cannabis for recreational purposes. It is also found in fiber hemp, but generally in a low concentration.
CBD has gradually gained more attention through its various medicinal properties, including analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects without intoxication or sedation. It also reduces the side effects of the THC when administered together, especially anxiety and fast heart rate. Together, the two components can act synergistically in many applications”
Mental and physical benefits but no High
Let us first look at what CBD is at all. This Plant-Cannabinoid (phyto-cannabinoid) occurs in the fiber of Hemp in different amounts, but also in marijuana cultivars and has, contrary to some allegations of older literature, no great psychoactive properties as was frequently written. The maximum effect of can merely be described as being “a soothing sedative”. The author of this text knows from his own experience that pure CBD neither greatly exhausts, nor exercises an intoxicating effect.
On the contrary, Cannabidiol is an inhibitor of the psychoactive effects of THC. In his book “The Treatment with Cannabis and THC” the physician and Cannabis expert Dr. Franjo Grotenhermen explains in briefly and comprehensibly the nature of Cannabidiol (CBD):
“The second most important Cannabinoid group is the Cannabidiol group”.
Cannabidiol (CBD) is mainly found in fiber mesh and some hash varieties. Contrary to THC, it does not cause any psychological effects, and it even counteracts the mental effect of the THC in sufficiently high doses. However, it can enhance the pain-relieving properties of the THC. Cannabidiol also has a soothing effect and is also used as an anti-inflammatory, anti-epileptic, anxiety-relieving and antipsychotic remedy and can also lower pressure within the eyes.
