Why is CBD Oil so expensive? – Is CBD a Scam?

cbd oil expensiveWe keep getting asked from visitors to our website “Why is CBD Oil so expensive?” Therefore, we have decided to take a closer look and explain this circumstance leading to this price level.

First of all, it is relatively expensive with emphasis on relative. In this little guide we will show you why CBD has such a price. But before you can understand that, some basic things about the production of CBD need to be clarified.

CBD Hemp Oil is not Hemp Seed Oil

If someone tells you that he sells CBD oil and is made of hemp seed, we recommend distancing yourself from such a seller.

Because either this seller is naive at best and wants to falsely sell you Hemp Seed Oil instead of CBD hemp oil or this seller is a scammer.

In both cases, you pulled a bad card and bought overpriced Hemp Seed Oil (which, of course is also very healthy, but does not have the effect of CBD) and probably wonder that it does not work and conclude that CBD could be a scam.

IS CBD a Scam?

CBD Oil for Inflammation: Pain & CytokinesWhen it comes to CBD, it’s not a scam. CBD is real and a cannabinoid in the cannabis/hemp plant.

It has been proven in many ways that it has a huge potential in relation to the health of a human (and animal).

This has been supported not only by countless reports from users but also by studies carried out in recent years.

You can read more about this on our website in “How can CBD help you” and “Guides & Advice for Cannabidiol”.

Of these sellers, as described above, there are unfortunately many who jump on the CBD oil Hype Train and want to make quick money with their fraud. Unfortunately, the reputation of reputable CBD Merchants and Manufacturers as well as the wonderful natural substance CBD suffer from this.

Of course, there are also people in whom CBD does not have the desired effect. But this much we can say, it also has a positive effect on these people, even if they have not noticed.

However, there is no fraud in terms of CBD oil is a scam solely by substance. Rather if you were cheated by someone who has sold you something with false promises that is not what he claims that it should be. Good real CBD oil.

A misunderstanding in the terms of hemp products

In addition, a misunderstanding of the terms leads to a misunderstanding of the products. But more in detail.

Hemp seed oil is often called hemp oil, but CBD hemp oil is also called hemp oil. This can only result in misunderstandings. That’s why we want to bring clarity once and for all and explain the differences.

What is Hemp Seed Oil (also called Hemp Oil)

hemp-seed-oilHemp seed oil, as the name implies, is produced from the seeds of the hemp plant.

Although this oil is very healthy, it does not contain CBD or cannabidiol.

It is extra virgin oil because it is cold pressed. The color is from light to dark green and has a nutty taste.

The darker the oil, the more distinctive the “hemp” flavor.

Hemp seed oil is therefore an cooking oil and besides that one of the healthiest. But again, it contains no CBD.

What is CBD Hemp Oil (also called Hemp Oil)

Hemp Flowers
Cannabinoids
extracted cbd oil

In contrast to hemp seed oil, CBD hemp oil is made from the flowers, leaves and stems of the hemp plant. These parts (especially the flowers) contain the precious CBD and other cannabinoids.

The cannabinoids are mainly produced in the small trichomes on the surface of the flowers and petals.  These are present in relation to the remaining organic material of the plant in a relatively small amount on the plant.

In the production of CBD oil, it is aimed to extract exactly these trichomes (or also called resin) from the plant. Extracted, this results in a very intense, sticky, gelatinous mass similar to the resin of a tree.

This extract is often thinned with hempseed oil or coconut oil during further processing, for reasons of dosing and ingestion. Depending on the degree of dilution, this results in variously strong CBD oils. Or it is sold purely as a concentrate.

Now you know the difference between CBD hemp oil and hemp seed oil. But you still wonder why it is so expensive?

Let’s take a closer look at what is needed to make a certain amount of CBD oil.

How to make CBD Hemp Oil?

So, what do we need to produce CBD hemp oil?

Of course we need raw material which in this case are hemp flowers with leaves and stems but best without seeds. Normally, the CBD content of ordinary Hemp Strain is about 1.3%, which is even more than most cannabis strains bred for recreational purposes have. But there are also some other hemp varieties that contain up to 4-5% CBD.

Our favorites are:

  • Finola
  • Fedora
  • KC Zuzana
  • MV Kompolti Premium
  • Futura
  • Ferimon

Just to name a few Hemp Strains which we also use for private CBD production.

Now, for this example, we take 1 Kg of dried hemp flowers from a 3% CBD Strain, which is equivalent to several mature hemp plants.

If we can extract every little CBD from this plant, if we do a good job, then we can get 30 grams of CBD Concentrate. That would be very optimistic, practically it is not possible to get everything out.

1 KG Hemp Flowers with 3% CBD equals 10 – 30 grams CBD Extract.

Well, if this concentrate had 100% CBD (which of course it cannot have, but rather 20-30%, since other cannabinoids and terpenes are also in the concentrate), then we would have 30.000mg CBD.

But in Reality it rather is 10.000 to 15000 mg of CBD per 1Kg dried Hemp flowers.

Alcohol Extraction Method

Basically there are 2 main methods of extracting cannabinoids like CBD from the plants.

There is the Extractions by means of alcohol (90% +) with filtering, subsequent reduction and decarboxylation. Which of course requires the necessary know-how and equipment.

CO2 Extraction Method

Supercritical CO2 Extraction Machine

And then there is the CO2 Extraction, which is much more expensive from the equipment but also provides a better end product.

In this example the work and taxes are not included. Also, electricity and material costs (such as alcohol, CO2, etc.) are not included here.

That should not be an exact price calculation, but honestly show what a CBD oil production can look like.

Be careful when buying supposed CBD oil

Another thing we want to clarify at this point is we do not sell CBD oil but we are recommending CBD oil from our partner, who in our opinion sells one of the best CBD oil available legally.

The  main purpose of our website is to have the experiences, studies, and research on CBD in one place and to make it easily accessible.

Please do not fall for this CBD oil fraud spam emails. We only send you email when you sign up for the newsletter. And our newsletters are actually just news about CBD.

We hope we have been able to answer a few questions regarding the price of CBD oil with this slightly different article. If there are any questions, we will complete and answer them in this article. Thank you for reading.

You are wrong about the rip-off part. There are countless company’s, probably the same company, but under different names, offering you a free trial, and without even knowing it you have signed up for their $80.00 a month charges for something that has no smell or flavor, and doesn’t do anything for you. You have to read the fine print. I am usually very good about fine print, and I did not see that if you don’t cancel within a certain amount of time, ( which you don’t even get the product before they start charging $80.00 a month until you cancel). they will charge you full price for the trial bottle you received. The company that ripped me off is naturalstrengthwellness.com. ph. 855-546-6236, 855-209-7808 , at least that is the name they used to charge my account. They even sent me an email letting me know that I have canceled my subscription, and ask for feedback. I bet you won’t see that feedback online. If you put pure cbd oil rip-off, you will see what I am talking about. So I recommend that nobody accept the free trial offer of cbd oil, all you do is pay shipping, they take there time about shipping it, so they can charge you for it.
